Daniele Finzi Pasca’s fabulously beautiful show “La Verità” will be performed in Russia for the first time in January.

It is now hard to believe that the celebrated Swiss theatre director began his career staging modest circus miniatures for a handful of viewers — today he stages productions in stadiums for audiences in their thousands.

“La Verità” is inspired by the work of Salvador Dali. In 2010 Finzi Pasca saw Dali’s curtain for the ballet “Mad Tristan”, painted in the 1940s for the Metropolitan Opera. It prompted him to create the tender, enchanting “La Verità”, in which drama, circus, ballet and opera combine to produce a fantastically beautiful story of love, truth and childhood reminiscences. The main characters seem to have stepped straight out of the famous surrealist’s paintings. Elegantly dressed rhinoceroses are caught in a rain of yo-yo toys, fearless acrobats play out love etudes on Rhenish wheels and extravagant jugglers in scarlet tutus dexterously toss objects to one another. One gets the impression that the director is consciously leading us into another dimension — a dimension of dreams. In this world are his own dreams as a child, making each member of the audience feel like a child looking for wonders in a magical forest.

Compagnia Finzi Pasca will be performing at the Tostonogov Bolshoy Drama Theatre from 13 to 21 January.
