Surrealistic Fairytales

Surrealistic Fairytales: , Saint-Petersburg

Sergio Bustamente, “the Salvador Dali of the three-dimensional world”, a national hero in his native Mexico and an acknowledged master in Europe, started creating his surrealistic works in the 1970s.

His first pieces were papier-mache sculptures which were exceptionally rich in colour and sentimental in mood. “First I fall in love with the essence of my creations, then lavish my love on the details” — that is the artist’s credo. The material he uses is not important — ceramics, bronze, silver, gold… But age has begun to tell and the master now has less and less strength for creativity, which is why one frequently hears of the end of one line or another: Bustamente’s farewell collection of bronze sculptures appeared in 2016 and the brand stopped making handbags in 2017. However, visitors to the Northern Capital have the opportunity to purchase the maestro’s latest creations (in Russia the brand has shops only in St. Petersburg) and the remnants of the collection are being sold at substantial discounts. There are also some new arrivals: new collections of ceramic sculpture.
