The 10th “White Nights of St. Petersburg” International Festival-Contest will take place in the Ice Palace from 20 to 22 July.

The festival has been attracting young performers and established pop music stars to the Northern Capital for more than 25 years. In various years the guests of honour and members of the jury have included such greats as the Doors, Thin Lizzy, the Scorpions, Whitesnake, Jose Carreras, Eros Ramazzotti, Emma Shapplin and Natalie Imbruglia. Those congratulating the contestants have included Alain Delon, Sophia Loren, Kevin Kostner and Woody Allen, who to many people's surprise turned out to be a superb jazz clarinettist. Among this year's guests of honour are the British singer Seal, who has won three Grammy awards, the legendary funk group Kool & the Gang — also a Grammy winner, the R&B stars Tower of Power and the Dutch saxophonist and singer Candy Dulfer. They will be joined by the kings of Russian pop music: Filipp Kirkorov, Sergey Lazarev, Nikolay Baskov and others.

Not for nothing is “White Nights” called a festival of youth and music — it brings together young performers full of energy and drive and recognized stars of world music. This year's Grand Prix will be contested by ten performers, all from different countries. On the first day (“Russian Song”) the contestants will sing songs by Russian composers, and on the second they will perform “World Hits”. The last day will see a grand gala concert featuring the finalists and the festival's star guests.
