The exhibition “A Little Dutch House. Peter the Great’s Dreams” in the White Hall of the Grand Palace at Peterhof invites viewers to immerse themselves in the tsar’s supposed dream of Amsterdam.

The dreams of the great reformer are curious, dramatic and full of allusions to baroque images and the philosophical doctrines of the 18th century. Memorial belongings of Peter the Great in keeping with the theme of “dream and awakening” link the real world to the imaginary world. The curators of the exhibition have included objects from Peter’s favourite “little Dutch house” — the Monplaisir Palace at Peterhof — as part of the tsar’s dreams, while the Danish designer Arne Kvorning has invested their thoughts in material form and has constructed a series of “dream pavilions”.
