The oldest Pushkin museum in Russia, which can trace its history back to the poet’s first museum in the Imperial Alexander Lyceum opened on 19 October 1879. It now encompasses six museums and is one of Europe’s major literary-memorial complexes. In 1997, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the museum was included in the list of the most valuable elements of Russia’s cultural heritage.
